Tutor to Adults

Are you patient and open-minded? Do you have strong reading, writing and math skills? Then consider becoming a tutor to adults! Tutor training begins June 3, 2013.

Receptionist

Do you enjoy meeting people from all over the world? Then consider volunteering as a receptionist at KL&S’ LINC site. Duties include greeting students and visitors, answering the telephone, photocopying as well as a variety of other clerical tasks. Volunteers are needed Tuesday during the day. Two shifts are available: 8:30 a.m. to noon; noon to 3:00 p.m.

Board Members

Are you passionate about literacy? Do you want to help make a difference in the lives of others? Kingston Literacy & Skills is looking for people who would like to share their time, talent and expertise by becoming a Board Member.

We are especially looking for people who have experience or training in any of the following:

  • business (marketing, fundraising)
  • policy review, development and writing
  • volunteer management

If you have 5 – 6 hours to share per month, can make a long-term commitment of at least one year and enjoy working with people, please click here to fill out the Statement of Interest for Potential Board Members. A Board Member will be in touch with you.

 

Classroom Assistant

KL&S’ North-end site is looking for one or two motivated and energetic volunteers to assist in the classroom. Duties include helping students with daily assignments, reading and simple computer activities as well as participating in group activities, learning games and crafts.

Preferred applicants will:

  •  be interested in working with adult learners
  •  have a background in support or education
  •  be patient, empathetic and respectful
  •  have a positive attitude and encouraging manner
  •  enjoy an active learning atmosphere
  •  be available to commit to this opportunity for a minimum of six months

This volunteer opportunity occurs on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday mornings at our KL&S North-end site located at the Salvation Army at 183 Weller Avenue.

Marketing Committee

Do you enjoy people and feel comfortable approaching businesses? Our marketing committee is looking for enthusiastic individuals to help out with fundraising, public awareness and marketing initiatives. Volunteers help plan, organize and host events. Help taking minutes at meetings is also appreciated. If you enjoy people and want to have some fun, this is the opportunity for you! The time commitment is about 2-3 hours per month, which includes a meeting.
