Bingo Greeter

Description:

  • Attend one bingo per month (2 hours)
  • Assist on the floor as needed – no sales involved

Commitment: Attend a 1.5 hour training session provided by Community Spirit Bingo. Attend at least one bingo (2 hours) per month with another KL&S bingo volunteer.

You will NOT be asked to handle money or to be a runner. This volunteer opportunity takes place in a smoke-free environment.

Grate Groan-Up Spelling Bee Volunteers

The Grate Groan-Up Spelling Bee takes place each May and is KL&S’ premier fundraiser. The Bee committee is looking for additional volunteers to help run this fun event! Volunteers plan and organize the event, help find sponsors and teams, and run the silent auction (asking for donations, picking up items, etc.) The committee is also looking for anyone interested in taking meeting minutes. If you enjoy people and want to have some fun, this is the opportunity for you! The time commitment is about 3 hours per month which includes one afternoon meeting.

Children’s Program Assistant

LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada)

What: Volunteer needed to assist with our Early Learning Program.

Where: Kingston Literacy & Skills, LINC, 16 Bath Rd.

When: 9:00 a.m.to 2:30 a.m. Monday to Thursday. Days and times are flexible.

We need a volunteer to assist with our high-quality Children’s Program. Our Early Learning Program is an educational program that fosters growth, through play, in all areas of child development and focuses on language acquisition and settlement. It is open to children between the ages of 19 months and 5 years old who have a parent attending LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) classes.

Duties: The volunteer will be involved in all aspects of our program, including:

  • art, book, and circle activities
  • outdoor gross motor-time
  • snack-time
  • sleep-time
  • housekeeping chores (such as; sweeping floors, preparing snack, washing dishes, laundry, etc.)

Requirements: must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator (or equivalent) or have at least one year experience working with children between the ages of 19 months and 5 years old. Applicants must also speak English at a Canadian Language Benchmark level 5 or higher and provide proof of the following:

  • CPIC (within the last three years)
  • CPR (within the last year)
  • First Aid (within the last three years)
  • up-to-date immunization (including Two-Step Tuberculosis Skin Test)
  • two references

Preferred candidates will:

  • be loving, patient, energetic caregivers who work professionally in a cooperative environment
  • have experience working with multi-cultural newcomer families

Marketing Committee

Do you enjoy people and feel comfortable approaching businesses? Our marketing committee is looking for enthusiastic individuals to help out with fundraising, public awareness and marketing initiatives. Volunteers help plan, organize and host events. Help taking minutes at meetings is also appreciated. If you enjoy people and want to have some fun, this is the opportunity for you! The time commitment is about 2-3 hours per month, which includes a meeting.
